Abstract
THIS PAMPHLET PRESENTS A DIVERSION PROGRAM FOR MINOR COMPLAINTS DEEMED INAPPROPRIATE FOR THE TRAUMA AND EXPENSE OF ARREST AND COURT PROCESSING. IN THE EVENINGS PERSONS INVOLVED IN COMPLAINTS MEET WITH A HEARING OFFICER INFORMALLY IN AN EFFORT TO RESOLVE THE DIFFICULTY WITHOUT COURT ACTION. THE PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES TAKING CASES FROM THE SUMMONS DOCKET. IN THE PERIOD OF A YEAR 3626 COMPLAINTS WERE DIVERTED TO HEARING OFFICERS. OF THESE 84 CRIMINAL COMPLAINTS WERE FILED AND 100 REQUIRED A SECOND HEARING. THE COST WAS APPROXIMATELY 20 DOLLARS PER CASE.
