JUVENILE RIGHTS, THE CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM, AND THE STIGMAS RESULTING FROM ADJUDICATION AND CLASSIFICATION ARE DISCUSSED, WITH AN ASSESSMENT OF THE PROPRIETY OF THE JUVENILE COURT SERVING AS A MEANS OF INTERVENTION.
Abstract
FACTORS WHICH MAY CAUSE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY ARE REVIEWED. JUVENILE COURT DEVELOPMENT, AND THE CONCEPT OF THE STATE AS PARENT ARE DISCUSSED, PARTICULARLY IN RELATION TO COURT INTERVENTION IN NON-CRIMINAL JUVENILE BEHAVIOR SUCH AS INCORRIGIBILITY OR TRUANCY. THE SYSTEM OF CLASSIFICATION, WHICH DISTINGUISHES TECHNICALLY BETWEEN DELINQUENTS AND JUVENILES IN NEED OF SUPERVISION IS ANALYZED. THE LEGAL AWARENESS OF THE PROBLEM OF STIGMA, THE SOCIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF THE DELINQUENCY STIGMA, AND THE ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES TO THE CHILD ARE THEN EXAMINED.
