In this article, inherent limitations to the predictive ability of inmate classification instruments are discussed, and four other objectives of classification are emphasized.
Abstract
Making correct predictions is only one, and probably not the most important, of the objectives for security classification. Other objectives are as follows: making classification decisions the right way, making decisions stick, managing decisions, and promoting positive human interaction. The discussion focuses on the utility of objective instruments for achieving those objectives. (Author abstract)
