THIS CONSOLIDATION FEASIBILITY STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENTS OF CLEAR CREEK (WHOSE 43 EMPLOYEES SERVE 5,315 PERSONS IN 394 SQUARE MILES) AND GILPIN (WITH SEVEN EMPLOYEES SERVING 1,295 PERSONS IN 149 SQUARE MI.).
Abstract
THIS 1973 STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO AID IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM OF PROVIDING REASONABLE FIELD SERVICES WITH THE LIMITED RESOURCES OF THE COUNTIES. COMPARATIVE TABLES WITH BUDGET INFORMATION ABOUT THE COUNTIES ARE INCLUDED IN THE REPORT. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE COUNTIES' LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES NEED TO CONCENTRATE AVAILABLE LOCAL RESOURCES ON PROVIDING LAW ENFORCEMENT FIELD SERVICES; THEY SHOULD BECOME LESS INVOLVED IN DETENTION AND CORRECTIONS FUNCTIONS. IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED FOR FURTHER DISCUSSION THAT A SINGLE DEPARTMENT BE ESTABLISHED TO SERVE BOTH COUNTIES AND THAT STATE ASSISTANCE SHOULD BE EXPLORED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
