Abstract
This report offers an analysis of the Washington State Department of Corrections’ inmate population by institution, pre-release and work release programs. The report is broken down into six statistical groupings: populations of adult institutions and programs; characteristics of resident inmates within institutions and programs; admissions to prison; releases from prison; custody distributions of resident inmates within institutions and programs; and risk level categories of resident inmates within institutions and programs. Populations of facilities and programs looked at the average daily population by rated capacity by month, female average daily population by rated capacity by month, and average daily population per month by facility. Characteristics of inmates provided data on distribution of location by race and Hispanic origin and female inmates, violent crime convictions, age, sentencing authority, and offense by location. Admissions to prison provided data on admission and release comparisons by month and admissions by month, type of admission, sex, county of conviction, age, race, Hispanic origin, sentencing authority, and offense. Releases from prison provided data on releases by month, type of release, sex, race and Hispanic origin and sentencing authority and length of stay of releases by category of admission, offense for total population, offense for court admissions, revocations, WEC graduates, DOSA offenders, and CCI/WEC violators. Custody distribution looked at current custody and initial custody classification. Finally, risk level categories of inmates provided data on location by risk level and risk level by race and sex. A glossary and abbreviations are included.
