THIS BOOK PRESENTS PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE AND NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN THE BIOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY, SOCIOLOGY, TREATMENT, AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF THE RAPIST; IT IS WRITTEN PRIMARILY FOR MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS.
Abstract
A HISTORICAL SURVEY OF PSYCHOPATHOLOGY, RANGING FROM EARLY WORKS OF KRAFFT-EBING AND FREUD ON PSYCHOSEXUAL DISORDERS TO STUDIES ON PERVERSION AND SADISM, AND SOME BASIC CONCEPTS OF THE ETIOLOGY OF SEX OFFENSES ARE PRESENTED. THE PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS WHICH MOTIVATE AND INFLUENCE RAPIST BEHAVIOR ARE EXAMINED, AS WELL AS RESULTS OF PSYCHOMETRIC TESTS PERFORMED ON KNOWN RAPISTS. SOCIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS AND THEORIES OF RAPE ARE DISCUSSED IN ANOTHER SELECTION. A REVIEW OF CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS AND BEHAVIOR TYPOLOGIES FOR RAPISTS IS OFFERED, AND BIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THE RAPIST AND ORGANIC METHODS SUGGESTED FOR THE TREATMENT OF AGGRESSIVE SEXUAL DISORDERS ARE PRESENTED. FOLLOWING AN OVERVIEW OF ELEMENTS COMMON TO PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR THE RAPIST, AN INTEGRATED TREATMENT PROGRAM IS PROPOSED.
