Uniform and equipment manufacturers have recognized the growing market of female police officers and have responded with customized products that free females to concentrate on the job and not on the distraction of utility items that are difficult to carry or ill-fitting clothing designed for men.
Abstract
A company called Mocean redesigned a bike uniform and uses performance fabrics in its bike and extreme-performance patrol uniforms. Another company that provides custom-tailored items is Olympic Uniforms of Seattle. Waist size and sleeve lengths are two areas that differ in clothing designed for women. Women’s bodies and waists tend to be smaller than those of men; Michael’s of Oregon has met this challenge with adjustable belts and utility items and the use of nylon for holsters and other items. Gall’s, Inc., makes bullet-resistant vests ordered by bust and cup size. Other companies have redesigned the vests and added utility pockets. Photographs
