This coaching packet, created for the 2007 Prisoner Reentry Initiative Grant Program, is one in a series developed for grantees to assist jurisdictions in the implementation of effective practices that support successful offender reentry and outcomes, specifically the engaging of offenders' families in successful reentry.
Abstract
The coaching packet is a series of tools to assist grantees in specific areas of their reentry work. They offer practical value beyond the jurisdictions involved in this initiative and are available to criminal justice professionals and their partners interested in enhancing the strategies for reducing recidivism and improving offender outcomes. Each coaching packet provides an overview of a specific topic as it relates to successful offender reentry, and offers tools and resources. This coaching packet is directed at the engaging of offenders' families in reentry process. It is divided into three sections. The first section provides an overview of using a strength-based, family focused approach to offender management and transition. The second section is the Engaging Offenders' Families in Reentry coaching packet checklist to be completed as a team with responses discussed. If, after completing the checklist in Section 2, the team determines that further work on this topic is necessary or would be helpful, steps are outlined in Section 3 to identify the goals, objectives, and action items, and identify any additional assistance or expertise needed.
