This manual provides step-by-step instructions for developing and implementing a mini-grant program in which grassroots groups and individuals receive small financial grants of $50 to $2,000 from an antidrug coalition to implement a drug abuse prevention, intervention, or educational project.
Abstract
The guidelines emphasize the need for simultaneous organization from the top down and the bottom up. The four preparatory steps include (1) creating a database of community organizations and their potential financial and in-kind resources for the program, (2) designating or developing a committee to administer the program, (3) having the mini-grant committee establish the program's purpose, (4) developing a one-page mini-grant application. The six implementation steps during the 4-month grant cycle are to announce the availability of the grants, (2) reviewing the applications, (3) ranking the applications, (4) announcing the recipients, (5) generating press coverage of the projects as they are implemented, and (6) monitoring the projects.
