This book provides college administrators, college law enforcement personnel, and students with information on the extent of crime on college campuses and on ways to enhance campus facility security and personal safety.
Abstract
The first section of the book examines the need to study crime on college campuses and the extent to which crimes are being committed. Particular attention is paid to who commits crime and who is typically victimized. In the next section on developing a campus-wide approach to crime prevention, the importance of scheduling academic classes and employee work hours in relation to a total crime prevention program is stressed. Subsequent sections address critical issues in campus security and safety, as well as off-campus apartment security. Final sections cover rape prevention and the protection of student property and vehicles. Rape prevention is viewed as one of the most pressing issues on college campuses, and specific information is provided on who the typical rapist is, why the crime occurs, what the victim can do to protect herself against assault, acquaintance rape, and gang rape. 45 end notes, 10 figures.
