This report describes the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standard for color test reagents/kits for preliminary identification of drugs of abuse.
Abstract
The purpose of this standard is to establish minimum requirements for color test reagents/kits to detect drugs of abuse and methods of testing the reagents to determine compliance with those requirements. This standard applies to field-testing kits consisting of color test reagents for the preliminary identification of drugs in their pure and/or diluted forms. It does not apply to kits that use thin layer chromatography as the identification procedure or to kits that identify drugs in body fluids. This standard does not mandate the identities of the reagents to be included in a test kit. As they are among those in most common use, the 12 reagents (and their color reactions) listed in this report are included for information purposes only. A kit may contain any reagent or group of reagents that meet the requirements of this standard. Tables, notes, appendixes
