This report provides comprehensive information on the activities and accomplishments of the Columbus Division of Police for 2007.
Abstract
Division highlights for 2007 include: (1) completion of a new canine facility for the Division’s Canine Unit; (2) the Division’s Motorcycle Unit received 9 new 2008 Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycles to replace older motorcycles; (3) the SWAT section moved into its newly remodeled facility; (4) the Narcotics Bureau personnel seized more than $26 million in illegal drugs and $2.7 million in cash; (5) the Crime Lab received 13,972 requests for service that involved 100,749 examinations; (6) DNA analysts linked 439 suspects to various crimes, as well as serial crimes using CODIS (Combined DNA Index System); (7) the Identification (ID) Unit began a pilot program in cooperation with the Municipal Clerk of Courts office to assist in fingerprinting persons who were charged with a crime, but who were not fingerprinted at the time of arrest; and (8) the Communications Bureau personnel answered a daily average of 2,808 non-emergency and 1,429 emergency 911 calls for service. This report presents an annual overview of the activities and accomplishments for the Columbus (Ohio) Division of Police for 2007.
