PROGRAM EVALUATIONS OF FOUR PARTS OF A SAN JOSE POLICE DEPARTMENT PROJECT TO REDUCE THE CITY'S CRIME RATE BY ENCOURAGING CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN CRIME PREVENTION ACTIVITIES.
Abstract
EVALUATION WAS CONDUCTED FOR THE CRIME REDUCTION PROJECTS FOR THE CRIMES OF RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY, COMMERCIAL ROBBERY, RAPE, AND AUTO THEFT. DATA WERE DERIVED FROM MONTHLY MASTER REPORTS OF THE DEPARTMENT'S PLANNING AND RESEARCH DIVISION, THE BASELINE DATA SYSTEM OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY CRIMINAL JUSTICE PILOT PROGRAM, AND OFFENSE REPORTS COMPILED BY THE DEPARTMENT'S COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION. RESULTS REVEALED INSIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN THE RATES STUDIED AND INSUFFICIENT DATA AVAILABLE TO ASSESS RAPE REDUCTION ACTIVITIES. THE EVALUATORS EMPHASIZE THE NEED FOR MULTI-ACTIVITY ANTI-CRIME PROGRAMS THAT INVOLVE BOTH THE POLICE AND THE COMMUNITY.
