THE DIFFERENT METHODS EMPLOYED BY THE NEW JERSEY ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE IN THE DETERRENCE, DETECTION, AND PROSECUTION OF OFFICIAL CORRUPTION ARE OUTLINED.
Abstract
LEGISLATION ESTABLISHED THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AS THE CHIEF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER IN THE STATE, PUTTING AT HIS COMMAND THE RESOURCES OF THE STATE POLICE AND A CORRUPTION CONTROL UNIT. ANTI-TRUST LITIGATION AND CIVIL SUITS HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO BE EFFECTIVE WEAPONS, AGAINST BOTH CORRUPT OFFICIALS AND INDIVIDUALS WHO SOLICIT PUBLIC CORRUPTION. ADDITIONAL CRIME DETERRING AND FIGHTING TOOLS ARE THE CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS AND POLITICAL CANDIDATE DISCLOSURE LAWS.
