This is a report of activities throughout the Northern Ireland criminal justice system during 1995, with some comparative statistics for earlier years.
Abstract
The first chapter presents a summary of recorded crime; crime trends; crime clear-up; court proceedings; court outcomes; sentencing; and the prison population. Chapter Two accounts for Notifiable Offenses Recorded by the Police, including violent and sexual offenses, burglary, robbery, thefts, and fraud and forgery. Offenses Cleared by the Police are summarized in Chapter Three. Chapter Four presents data on Court Proceedings, both Magistrates' Courts and Crown Court, pleas and outcomes, persons convicted listed by age and sex, and juveniles. Chapter Five concerns Sentencing. The final chapter describes the Prison Population, including types of prisoners, offenders sentenced to immediate custody, and comparisons between receptions and the daily population. Three appendixes provide data on Coverage of Notifiable and Indictable Offenses, The Criminal Courts in Northern Ireland, and Sentences Available to the Court. Tables, figures, publications
