Abstract
The commercial victimization surveys, collected as part of the National Crime Surveys, document burglary and robbery incidents for all types of commercial establishments, as well as political, cultural, and religious organizations. Business characteristics include form of ownership and operation, size and type of business, and security measures. Data include information on time and place, weapon involvement, offender and entry characteristics, injuries and deaths, and type and value of stolen property. The stratified multistage cluster selected 34 primary sampling units. Data were collected by calendar quarter for 4 quarters in 1973-76 and for 2 quarters in 1977; the incidents occurred 6 months prior to the interview date. The 18 hierarchical files contain 2,080 to 23,033 business and incident records; the 191 variables are contained in a printed codebook.
