The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice of the United Nations (U.N.) Economic and Social Council (ESC) reports on the proceedings of its 20th session, held on December 3, 2010, and April 11-15, 2011.
Abstract
Chapter 1 presents matters that either call for action by or brought to the attention of the ESC. These include draft resolutions to be recommended by the ESC for adoption by the U.N. General Assembly; draft resolutions for ESC adoption; draft decisions for ESC adoption; and matters brought to the attention of the ESC. Chapter 2 contains deliberations and Commission actions on issues related to strategic management, the budget, and administration. Chapter 3 summarizes the discussion on protecting children in a digital age, which refers to the misuse of technology in the abuse and exploitation of children; proceedings of a workshop on law enforcement cooperation in combating child pornography are included. Chapter 4 consists of deliberations and Commission actions on the integration and coordination of efforts by the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime, as well as by member states in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. Chapter 5 presents deliberations and Commission actions on world crime trends and emerging issues and responses in crime prevention and criminal justice. Chapter 6 contains deliberations and Commission actions on the follow-up to the 12th U.N. Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, as well as preparations for the 13th Congress. Chapter 7 focuses on the use and application of U.N. standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice. The provisional agenda for the 21st session of the Commission is presented in chapter 8. The remaining three chapters address "other business," adoption of the Commission's report on its 20th session, and the organization of the session.
