Preliminary results of a State-by-State study of the procedures by which juveniles are committed to and released from institutional placement are reviewed at the 1981 National Conference on Juvenile Justice.
Abstract
The study centers on the adjudicated delinquent, but also provides information on the serious youthful offender and the waiver to adult court. The first phase of the study began with a survey of relevant statutes in all 50 States and continued with a telephone survey of key persons involved in each State's commitment and release process. A speaker explains the variety of approaches discovered and explores some issues raised by the study, such as the use of release guidelines and due process. Another speaker briefly discusses questions which have yet to be answered. A table of contents is included.
