This article examines activities of a private sector service supplier to corrections facilities.
Abstract
Securicor, a private sector service supplier of offender management services in the United Kingdom and the United States, seeks to protect the public in the short term through secure residential and non-residential services, and in the long term through constructive and rehabilitative services while offenders are under sentence. The organization provides prisoner escorting services, i.e., the secure transportation of offenders to and from prisons, police stations, and courts, and ensuring their safe custody in court. The organization is also active in prison management, aids released offenders in their reintegration into society, operates programs to help prisoners break the cycle of substance abuse, and assists offenders' families. Securicor oversees electronic monitoring of offenders and manages juvenile facilities. By ensuring that all those in care and custody are kept in a safe, secure, and humane environment, with their health and emotional needs addressed and with access to educational and vocational training in skills required to return to the community, Securicor believes it acts in a positive way to improve all aspects of custodial care.
