PILOT PROJECT STUDY OF MODERN COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY AS APPLIED TO THE RELIEF OF CITY PROBLEMS AND THE UPGRADING OF CITY LIFE.
Abstract
A SUBPANEL OF THE COMMITTEE ON TELECOMUNICATIONS REVIEWED MANY PRESENT AND PROPOSED APPLICATIONS OF COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY TO CRIME PREVENTION AND EMERGENCY SERVICES RESPONSE EXPEDITING. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE PILOT PROJECTS TO IMPLEMENT A 24-HOUR TELEVISION SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM, TO DEVELOP AND TEST A SYSTEM TO AUTOMATICALLY LOCATE THE ORIGIN OF AN INCOMING EMERGENCY CALL AND TO STUDY THE AUTOMATIC VEHICLE MONITORING TO ALL POTENTIAL PUBLIC SERVICES USERS. OTHER AREAS COVERED ARE URBAN HOUSING SECURITY, CITIZEN-GOVERNMENT INTERACTION, EDUCATION, HEALTH, POLLUTION, AND TRANSPORTATION.
