These 18 papers discuss current ideas, experience, practice, and policy in community crime prevention in Great Britain, other European countries, Canada, and the United States, based on a conference convened by the British Home Office Research and Planning Unit in 1986.
Abstract
Individual papers focus on the relationship between public disorder and crime, the interactions between offenders and their communities, and the relationship between housing policy and crime in Great Britain. Additional papers discuss the role of informal social control in rural and urban areas, public attitudes toward participation in Neighborhood Watch programs, and results of evaluations of Neighborhood Watch. Further papers focus on efforts to prevent crowd violence at professional soccer games in England, crime prevention efforts in inner-city areas, evaluations of efforts at interagency coordination, and the issues involved in implementing community crime prevention programs. Other papers present issues currently confronting community crime prevention efforts in England; crime prevention efforts in Canada, France, and The Netherlands; and two contrasting views of community crime prevention. Tables, figures, chapter notes, and reference lists.
