DESCRIBES A DIVERSION PROGRAM IN BUCKS COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA WHICH EMPLOYS COUNSELING, SUPERVISION, GROUP AND FAMILY THERAPY, EDUCATIONAL, REFERRAL, AND ADVOCACY SERVICES.
Abstract
WHILE THE YOUTH REMAINS IN HIS OR HER OWN RESIDENCE, COMMITMENT IS EXPECTED TO THE REHABILITATIVE PROGRAM. EXPECTATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS, NO MORE DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR OR DRUG USE, WORK ON EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS WITH COMPLETE HONESTY WITHIN PROGRAM OFFERRINGS, WORK AT ADJUSTMENT TO SCHOOL OR JOB, ACT RESPONSIBLY IN CHOOSING AND ADJUSTING TO RESIDENTIAL ENVIRONMENT, AND ACCEPT ACCOUNTABILITY TO THE STAFF. THE PROGRAM OFFERS ALTERNATIVES FOR LIFE STYLES AND HOLDS PARTICIPANTS RESPONSIBLE FOR CHOICES MADE. DURING THE FIRST THIRTEEN MONTHS OF THE PROGRAM, OF THOSE NO LONGER IN THE PROGRAM, SLIGHTLY OVER HALF WERE DISCHARGED AS SUCCESSFUL, WHILE SLIGHTLY UNDER HALF WERE REMOVED AS FAILURES. PROGRAM DEPENDS ON TWO FULL TIME STAFF PERSONS AND VOLUNTEERS.
