This book examines all forms of community-based correctional programs.
Abstract
The book focuses on all forms of community-based correctional programs from probation to electronic monitoring, house arrest, day treatment, boot camp, and fines. The book is organized in two parts: The Community Corrections Continuum and Case Management and Supervision. The book provides a thorough overview of probation and probation supervision; a separate chapter on the mentally ill and sex offenders, including case management issues; examples of actual treatment programs, including first-person testimony of offenders and community corrections workers; and the latest legislation and current trends toward community protection and harsh sanctions. The book also discusses problems and needs of drug- and alcohol-abusing offenders; problems and needs of female offenders; programs for juveniles; community courts; and control and public safety issues with regard to offender supervision.
