Abstract
THE FIRST SECTION PRESENTS A DESCRIPTION OF THE TWO TYPES OF ADMINISTRATION FOR COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS IN IOWA: THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES' BUREAU OF COMMUNITY-BASED CORRECTIONS AND THROUGH A COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS PROJECT OR DEPARTMENT OF COURT SERVICES. PRETRIAL RELEASE, PRESENTENCE INVESTIGATIONS, PROBATION, PAROLE, HALFWAY HOUSES, AND RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITIES ARE AMONG THE PROGRAMS AVAILABLE. THE SECOND SECTION OF THE REPORT DISCUSSES COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS IN EACH JUDICIAL DISTRICT (WATERLOO, MASON CITY, SIOUX CITY, COUNCIL BLUFFS, DES MOINES, CEDAR RAPIDS, DAVENPORT, AND OTTUMWA/BURLINGTON), PRESENTING A DESCRIPTION OF THE TYPE OF ADMINISTRATION INVOLVED AND THE SPECIFIC PROGRAMS OFFERED. APPENDIXES CONCERN THE STUDY APPROACH AND PARTICIPANTS, A SAMPLE POINT SYSTEM FOR PRETRIAL RELEASE, A GRANT FUNDS BREAKDOWN, TABLES OF ORGANIZATION FOR THE EIGHT JUDICIAL DISTRICTS, AND A LIST OF THE BUREAU OF CORRECTIONAL EVALUATION STAFF PARTICIPANTS.
