This Community-Based Crime Reduction Bulletin of the International Association of Chiefs of Police focuses on events, case studies, and resources related to community-based crime reduction
Abstract
This issue's first section, entitled "In The News," contains eight brief descriptions of ways in which various communities have recently implemented effective crime prevention and intervention strategies; for example, a newly formed law enforcement agency in Camden, NJ, correlated a 22-percent decrease in gunshot patients at local major trauma centers with its use of community-based policing tactics and new technology. For each case summary, online access is provided to a more detailed description of the summarized policies and practices and their effects. Another section of the bulletin, entitled "Announcements," summarizes and provides expanded online access to a preview of the FY 2020 Department of Justice grants for police and corrections projects. The section of the Bulletin entitled "Translating the Research" summarizes and provides expanded online access to two applications of research projects. One project tested hot-spots police patrols against no-treatment controls on the track-level platforms of the London Underground. A second project involved the provision of guides to law enforcement personnel for key problem-oriented policing and strategic-policing principles and practices. A section entitled "Upcoming Events" provides summaries and expanded online access to an IACP Technology Conference in May 2020, training for leadership in police organizations (February 2020), and an Officer Safety and Wellness Symposium (February 2020). A separate bulletin section covers "Upcoming Webinars," one on integrating community partnerships into an agencies activities (January 2020), and a second one on community coordinated police responses (March 2020). Two "Online Learning" events address the theory and principles of crime prevention through environmental design and generating collective will and momentum for a BCJI initiative.
