Abstract
Several papers address various conceptual elements of community corrections programs. One paper describes the major players needed for implementing community corrections programs. Another discusses the importance of involving probation departments and the community in a collaborative effort. Other papers address the importance of documenting successes through outcome measures and critical concepts that should be included in the development of community corrections' programs. Another category of papers discusses organizational goals of community corrections programming. One paper in this section considers alternatives to incarceration in Canada, and another describes community corrections programs used by Michigan, including boot camps, intensive supervision, and electronic monitoring. A representative of Montgomery County, Maryland Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation presents his county's perspective on community corrections. The programs deal with pretrial diversion and sentenced offender populations. Another group of papers deal with specific programs in community corrections, including day reporting centers and electronic monitoring. Six papers address the latter topic.
