THIS ARTICLE PROBES WHAT THE RELATIONSHIP CAN BE BETWEEN THE MENTAL HEALTH CENTERS AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN KANSAS.
Abstract
THOSE COMPONENTS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN KANSAS MOST RECEPTIVE TO COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMS WITH THE MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM ARE ONLY THREE IN NUMBER-JUVENILE COURTS, URBAN LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, AND COUNTY PROBATION OFFICERS. THOSE LEAST APPROACHABLE ARE RURAL LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL AND STATE PAROLE OFFICERS. THE SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM IS DEVELOPED PHYSICALLY AND FUNCTIONALLY WITHIN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, NOT ON THE HOME TURF OF THE MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL TO INITIATE AN ASSOCIATION WITH HIS LEGAL ACQUAINTANCES AND MAKE HIMSELF THEIR COLLEAGUE. THE INCEPTION OF A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM USUALLY DEPENDS ON THE ABILITY OF THE MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL TO AKS ONE CRUCIAL QUESTION, THE SINE QUA NON OF MENTAL HEALTH CONSULTATION: 'WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR WORK?'(AUTHOR ABSTRACT)....BDS
