THE AUTHOR CONTENDS THAT THE POLICE AND THE COMMUNITY MUST BE CONSIDERED AS A MUTUALLY SUPPORTIVE PARTNERSHIP IN WHICH EACH INVOLVES ITSELF WITH THE OTHER.
Abstract
DISCUSSED IS THE NEED TO DE-EMPHASIZE THE POLICE ROLE OF CRIME REPRESSION IN FAVOR OF CRIME PREVENTION. ALSO CONSIDERED ARE THE REFORM OF POLICE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE, POLICE METHODS, ATTITUDES, AND ADMINISTRATION. THE AUTHOR ALSO SUGGESTS CHANGES IN THE METHOD OF POLICE LEADERSHIP AND POLICE TRAINING, INCLUDING LATERAL ENTRY INTO THE POLICE RANKS AND A GREATER HUMAN RELATIONS EMPHASIS IN POLICE ACADEMY PROGRAMS.
