This manual is designed to aid law enforcement trainers in California in developing an appropriate lesson plan to cover the 10 performance objectives that are related to community relations and that are contained in the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Basic Course.
Abstract
The performance objectives focussed on the roles of law enforcement personnel, expected police officer behavior, techniques for coping with cultural differences, and the criteria the public uses to evaluate law enforcement services. Other topics included common negative stereotypes regarding law enforcement personnel, crime prevention programs, the elements of crime prevention, nonverbal factors that contribute to a negative response from the public, and verbal statements that contributed to a negative response from the public.
