SURVEY OF THE CAPABILITIES AND NEEDS OF PRIVATE AGENCIES IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY (CA) IN THESE THREE PROGRAM AREAS.
Abstract
APPROXIMATELY 640 AGENCIES PROVIDED SERVICES FOR ADDICTS, ALCOHOLICS, AND DELINQUENTS IN THE COUNTY AT THE TIME OF THIS STUDY. ALMOST THREE FOURTHS OF THIS NUMBER ARE CONCERNED WITH DELINQUENCY. AGENCIES ARE CONSIDERED IN TERMS OF SERVICES, CLIENTS SERVED, AGENCY AGE, SKILL PATTERNS AND NEEDS, STAFFING PATTERNS, FINANCES, INTERAGENCY COOPERATION, COOPERATION WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT, PLANNING, AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT. CLUSTERS AND GAPS ARE ALSO CITED, ALONG WITH SOME POLICY ISSUES RAISED BY THE STUDY FINDINGS. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE ACCORDING TO PRIORITIES IDENTIFIED BY THE SURVEY. THOSE AREAS NEEDING RESEARCH ARE ALSO POINTED OUT. INFORMATION FOR THIS STUDY WAS COLLECTED THROUGH A MAILED QUESTIONNAIRE, INTERVIEWS, AND CONVENTIONAL RESEARCH PROJECTS AND CASE STUDIES, WHICH ARE SUMMARIZED IN THE APPENDIXES.
