PRACTICAL TRAINING TO SHARPEN THE AWARENESS OF CORRECTIONS PERSONNEL TO CONDITIONS AFFECTING SOCIAL AND PERSONAL DEVIANCE BY EXPOSURE TO THESE CONDITIONS.
Abstract
TRAINING TOOK PLACE IN INSTITUTES IN THREE COMPONENTS SEMINARS AND FILMS, SMALL GROUP DISCUSSIONS, AND CLINICAL FIELD EXPERIENCES. THE COMMUNITY WAS INVOLVED BY LOCATING THE CENTER IN SEATTLE'S HIGH CRIME AREA, AND COMMUNITY RESIDENTS CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROGRAMS. FIELD EXPERIENCE INCLUDED TRYING TO LIVE FOR A WEEK ON THE 40 DOLLARS A PAROLEE WOULD HAVE AVAILABLE AND TRY TO FIND WORK AS AN EX-CONVICT. THE REPORT CONTAINS TRANSCRIPTS OF TAPED CONVERSATIONS OF THE TRAINEES. ANALYSES OF LOGISTICS, BUREAUCRATIC LIFE, THE CRIME PROBLEM, AND DAILY LOGS AND BUDGET SHEETS MAINTAINED BY TRAINEES ARE INCLUDED. THE QUESTIONNAIRES FILLED OUT BY TRAINEES ARE TABULATED AND ANALYZED.
