This annotated bibliography lists 500 documents that have been significant in the field of comparative criminology and of continuing interest since the 1960's.
Abstract
Most of the books, book chapters, journal articles, conference and symposium proceedings, and unpublished papers were published after the early 1970's. Most were originally published in the English language. The first three chapters present documents focusing on definitions and measurement in comparative criminology, including perceptions of crime and cross-national crime data. The next six chapters focus on cross-national crime rates in violent crime, property crimes, economic and political crimes, transnational corporate crime, demographic factors associated with crime, and the role of economic development in crime. The final two chapters present sources addressing social control, dispute resolution, the criminal justice system, and corrections and sentencing policies. Each entry contains bibliographic information, followed by a summary of the major points, sources and methodology, and findings. Subject and author indexes and appended list of countries in cross-national data sets
