COMPARES THE RESULTS OF SUBSET RANKING PROCEDURES WITH COMPLETE SET RANKING PROCEDURES FOR DETERMINING THE GOAL PRIORITIES OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EDUCATION IN CALIFORNIA.
Abstract
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS RATED 106 GOALS. A SECOND GROUP OF EDUCATORS WAS SUBSEQUENTLY ASKED TO RATE RANDOM SUBSETS OF THE ORIGINAL 106 GOALS. THE CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE SUBSET RANKING RESULTS AND THE COMPLETE SET RANKING RESULTS WERE STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT. THE ADVANTAGES OF THE SUBSET RANKING PROCEDURE ARE THAT IT TAKES LESS TIME AND IS EASIER TO USE THAN THE COMPLETE RANKING PROCEDURE. THE DRAWBACK TO THE SUBSET RANKING PROCEDURE IS THAT THE AUTHORS PERCEIVE THAT THE RATERS WILL BE DISSATISFIED ABOUT RATING PRIORITIES WITHIN A SET OF GOALS THAT IS NOT LIKELY TO CONTAIN ALL OF THE GOALS THEY BELIEVE ARE MOST IMPORTANT.
