Two groups of incarcerated inmates in the Arizona State Prison Complex in Tucson were assessed by means of plethysmography and treated with two methods to reduce deviant arousal as measured by the test.
Abstract
Group One completed a variation of minimal arousal conditioning, which included masturbating to ejaculation to an appropriate audio tape and then administering ammonia when aroused to a subsequent tape of their deviant interest. Group Two was exposed to a variation of masturbatory satiation followed by the minimal arousal conditioning used with the other group. The 30 participants were tested by plethysmography following each course of treatment. The percentage arousal was analyzed using Mann Whitney U tests of significance. The analysis revealed minimal arousal conditioning to be an effective method of reducing deviant arousal. Tables and 13 references (Author abstract modified)
