This report describes the structures, eligible populations, statutory authority, and other aspects of 21 types of community corrections programs in North Carolina in fiscal year 1995-96 and is intended as an aid to continued policy development in community corrections.
Abstract
The discussion covers pretrial services programs, deferred prosecution, mental health and drug abuse assessment and treatment services, Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime (TASC), drug education schools, fines, and unsupervised probation. Additional programs include the community service work program; probation, post-release supervision, and parole; house arrest with electronic monitoring; day reporting centers; and the boot camp or Intensive Motivational Program of Alternative Correctional Treatment (IMPACT) program. Further programs include residential centers, the Delancey Street Foundation, the ECO Center for Women, the Forsyth Initiative for Residential Self-help Treatment, Inc. (FIRST), Summit House, Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers, halfway houses, Oxford House, Inc., and the Community Penalties Program.
