The community-based corrections programs in North Carolina are described with respect to their purpose, eligible population, organizational structure, and supervision provided, based on information from fiscal year 1993-94.
Abstract
The individual programs are also profiled with respect to program admissions, terminations, lengths of stay, cost information, and other data provided by State agencies and individual pretrial and residential programs throughout the State. The programs include pretrial services programs, electronic monitoring programs, deferred prosecution, mental health services, drug treatment, Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime, and drug education schools. Additional correctional alternatives include fines, unsupervised probation, community service, regular probation and parole, intensive supervision programs, house arrest with electronic monitoring, day reporting centers, shock incarceration, residential facilities, halfway houses, and the community penalties program.
