Abstract
The training programs described are for State and local audiences, and are provided by various Federal agencies. Eleven training courses sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense cover such topics as the response to chemical and biological casualties, the medical effects of ionizing radiation, preparing for and managing the consequences of terrorism, and an overview of weapons of mass destruction. Forty-seven training programs are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. These courses pertain to emergency management for hazard materials attacks, notably radiological terrorist attacks. The response to and the management of such incidents are addressed in the training courses. Sixty-two training courses are offered by the Department of Homeland Security, Border and Transportation Security, Office for Domestic Preparedness. These courses cover all phases of preparation for and response to a terrorist attack that involves weapons of mass destruction. Numerous other training events are provided under the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program; the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, Emergency Management Institute; the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, National Fire Academy; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Department of Transportation; and the Environmental Protection Agency.
