A STUDY OF WHETHER GREAT BRITAIN'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT OF 1972 RESULTED IN MORE COMPENSATION FOR PROPERTY LOSS BEING AWARDED BY THE CROWN COURT OF LONDON.
Abstract
THIS ACT SIMPLIFIED THE PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING VICTIM PROPERTY COMPENSATION. COMPENSATION OUTCOMES WERE EXAMINED FOR PROPERTY CRIME CASES BEFORE AND AFTER THE NEW LAW WENT INTO EFFECT, WHILE COMPENSATION HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN AWARDED IN ONLY 14 PERCENT OF CASES FOR WHICH IT COULD HAVE BEEN AWARDED, THAT FIGURE ROSE TO 26 PERCENT AFTER THE NEW LAW WENT INTO EFFECT.
