Statistics are tabulated on the composition of police services in Australia as of June 1999.
Abstract
There were 43,048 sworn police officers as of June 30, 1999. This total included 35,959 male police officers and 7,089 police officers. There were 227 sworn police officers per 100,000 population. Specific data are provided on male and female sworn police officers and on police officer ranks in the Australian Federal Police and in New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia. Data are also provided on indigenous and non-indigenous young people between 10 and 17 years of age who were in juvenile corrections institutions between September 1993 and September 1999. 14 tables
