RESULTS OF SURVEYS OF YOUTH ORIENTED SERVICES AGENCIES, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS, DAY CARE CENTERS, AND SELECTED YOUTHS AND PARENTS TO DETERMINE YOUTH NEEDS AND SERVICES AVAILABLE.
Abstract
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT WERE TO DETERMINE THE SERVICES ACTUALLY BEING PROVIDED, TO DETERMINE WHAT SERVICES SHOULD BE PROVIDED, TO DISCOVER THE GAPS CURRENTLY EXISTING IN SERVICES AND HOW THEY CAN BE FILLED, AND TO ASSESS THE PRACTICES, POLICIES, AND PROCEDURES OF INSTITUTIONS WHICH MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DYSFUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOR. OTHER GOALS WERE TO DETERMINE NECESSARY POLICY AND PRACTICE CHANGES, TO DETERMINE TO WHAT EXTENT DIVERSION IS CURRENTLY OPERATING AND TO DEVELOP A STRATEGY TO INCREASE DIVERSIONARY EFFORTS. A LISTING OF AGENCIES AND A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE KIND OF SERVICES EACH PROVIDES IS INCLUDED. A DISCUSSION OF THE NEEDS OF YOUTH AS IDENTIFIED BY VARIOUS AGENCIES AND PERSONS SURVEYED IS ALSO PROVIDED. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO DYSFUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOR WERE DISCUSSED FROM INFORMATION OBTAINED IN THE SURVEY AND FROM PUBLISHED SOURCES. IT WAS FOUND THAT CONSIDERABLE DIVERSION WAS CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE. THE APPENDIXES INCLUDE THE SURVEY INSTRUMENTS, AND ORGINIAL GOALS OF THE PROJECT.
