Abstract
THE ARTICLES IN THIS TEXTBOOK WERE DRAWN FROM A COLLECTION OF PAPERS PRESENTED AT A NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD IN ATLANTA IN 1973. THE INTRODUCTORY MATERIAL POINTS OUT THE PURPOSES OF COMPUTER PROCESSING AND NOTES THE CURRENT TRENDS IN THIS FIELD. THE PAPERS INCLUDE A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF JUVENILE INFORMATION SYSTEMS, AND DESCRIPTION OF SUCH PROGRAMS AS 'PROFILE', UTAH'S JUVENILE COURT INFORMATION SYSTEM, 'JURIS', ST. LOUIS' COURT MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM, AND THE MICHIGAN YOUTH SERVICES INFORMATION SYSTEM. OTHER ARTICLES DISCUSS THE CONFIDENTIALITY AND SECURITY OF COMPUTERIZED RECORDS, AND EXAMINE THE POTENTIAL FOR HARM, THE VIOLATION OF BASIC LIBERTIES, AND THE UNDESIRABLE CONSEQUENCES OF THE USE OF COMPUTERS IN JUVENILE COURT ACTIVITIES. INCLUDED IS A DATA PROCESSING GLOSSARY OF TERMS AND SYMBOLS USED IN THE FIELD.
