EXTENSION, MODIFICATION, AND AUTOMATION OF A METHOD OF CLASSIFICATION WHICH ASSOCIATES THE FINGERPRINTS OF AN ARRESTED PERSON WITH POSSIBLE PRIOR CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES.
Abstract
SINCE THE EXTENDED COMPUTER TYPE CLASSIFICATION IS INTENDED TO DESCRIBE IN TERMS OF PATTERN AND RIDGE COUNT NEARLY EVERY FINGERPRINT, IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO SEARCH AGAINST THE COLLECTION EVERY MARK, CAPABLE OF BEING SO DESCRIBED, WHICH IS FOUND AT THE SCENE OF A CRIME. ACCEPTABLE RESULTS WOULD BE OBTAINED ESPECIALLY WHEN SEQUENCES OF MARKS ARE FOUND, OR WHEN THE SEQUENCE IS UNUSUAL. INCLUDED IN THIS PAPER IS A TABLE SHOWING THE RESULTS OF 500 SEARCHES USING THE CODING DEVISED BY THE FINGERPRINT BRANCH AT NEW SCOTLAND YARD. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
