TO ILLUSTRATE THE POSSIBILITIES OF COMPUTER UTILIZATION IN LAW ENFORCEMENT EDUCATION, THIS PAPER DESCRIBES SOME OF THE COMPUTER PROGRAMS POLICE SCIENCE STUDENTS HAVE DEVELOPED AT THE PAN AMERICAN UNIVERSITY.
Abstract
PAN AMERICAN UNIVERSITY'S COMPUTER CENTER PROVIDES INSTRUCTION TO POLICE SCIENCE STUDENTS ON THE CAPABILITIES OF COMPUTERS AND THE APPLICATIONS OF COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY TO POLICE PROBLEMS. STUDENTS OUTLINE AREAS OF POLICE WORK THAT MIGHT BE AIDED BY COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY, AND WITH THE HELP OF THE UNIVERSITY COMPUTER PROGRAMMING CENTER, DEVELOP COMPUTER PROGRAMS FOR THESE APPLICATIONS. SAMPLE PROGRAMS DEVELOPED BY STUDENTS IN THE AREAS OF SUSPECT IDENTIFICATION, BURGLARY ANALYSIS, RADIO CODE TRAINING, AND OFFENDER RISK EVALUATION ARE DESCRIBED.
