THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW YORK STATE BAR ASSOCIATION LEGAL DATA PROCESS SERVICE IS TRACED FROM THE INITIAL STUDY OF AVAILABLE SYSTEMS TO THE END OF THE FEASIBILITY STUDY.
Abstract
AFTER INVESTIGATING SEVERAL DATA PROCESSING SYSTEMS, THE NEW YORK STATE BAR ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE ON ELECTRONIC RESEARCH RECOMMENDED TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE THAT A PROPOSAL BY THE MEAD DATA CENTRAL BE ACCEPTED. THE CONTRACT BETWEEN MEAD AND THE NEW YORK STATE BAR ASSOCIATION WAS EXECUTED ON JANUARY 5, 1971. THE FEASIBILITY STUDY COVERED: THE RESEARCH FACILITIES AVAILABLE TO THE NEW YORK BAR; THE RESEARCH PATTERNS OF THE NEW YORK BAR; RESEARCH COSTS; THE SIZE AND COMPOSITION OF THE NEW YORK; AND THE ATTITUDE OF THE BAR TOWARD THIS NEW RESEARCH RESOURCE. SEVERAL VOLUMES OF JUDICIAL OPINIONS WERE PROCESSED FOR THE SYSTEM. AT THE WRITING OF THIS ARTICLE, MEAD DATA CENTRAL AND THE BAR ASSOCIATION WERE IN THE PROCESS OF NEGOTIATING A CONTRACT FOR COMMERCIAL PROVISION OF THIS LEGAL RETRIEVAL SYSTEM.
