The article describes the design, method of data entry, and query system for a computerized storage and retrieval system for automative paint.

Abstract

The system, now in operation in Canada, was created from an IBM computer software package called STAIRS (Storage and Information Retrieval System). With this centralized system and terminal access in individual laboratories, chemists across the country are able to input data resulting in a good cross section of samples that should be representative of all the automotive paint systems used throughout the industry. The queries can be unformatted and are submitted in an on line, interactive environment that produces results almost immediately. A sample data entry form and a query are provided along with 11 references.
