Abstract
Individual papers examine the nature of computer viruses and measures to protect against them, the characteristics and activities of computer hackers, and risk analysis and security measures for personal computers. Additional papers focus on legal issues associated with computer viruses, the impact on constitutional rights of the use of computers by the police and corrections agencies, and the costs and benefits of computer technology in criminal justice agencies. Further papers explore the application of computer technology in prisons and in offender monitoring, the need to include computer literacy in criminal justice education, the potential role of an expert system in profiling murderers, and the development of artificial intelligence systems in law enforcement.
