A NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE TECHNIQUE IS DESCRIBED THAT CAN DETECT EXPLOSIVES CONCEALED IN LUGGAGE OR MAIL.
Abstract
A DEMONSTRATION MODEL NMR (NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE) MAIL BOMB DETECTOR HAS BEEN DESIGNED, CONSTRUCTED AND TESTED. THIS DEVICE CAN DETECT AS LITTLE AS 20 GRAMS OF RDX (LESS THAN THAT USED IN A SMALL LETTER BOMB) BUT DOES NOT FALSE-ALARM ON INNOCENT ITEMS ENCOUNTERED IN MAIL. THE TECHNIQUE OFFERS PROMISE OF ADVANCED LETTER, PACKAGE, AND LUGGAGE INSPECTION SYSTEMS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
