The articles, written by a social worker and an animal welfare worker, compare, from their personal perspectives, the connections they see between violence suffered by children and violence suffered by animals.
Abstract
In the first article, the social worker describes her experiences of taking care of her ill dog, and the excellent veterinary services, she obtained at reasonable cost and convenient location. She compares that care with the inadequate medical treatment received by many children who are put into county care because of parental abuse and neglect. The following two articles, written by the animal welfare worker, describes the effects that kinship with animals can have on neglected and abused children, and the interconnectedness of cruelty which can erupt as violence against any type of living victim.
