THE THEME OF THIS PAPER IS THAT DRUG ADDICTION IS NOT ALWAYS A CONSEQUENCE OF USING HEROIN OR OTHER OPIATES. CONTINUOUS ADDICTION IS NOT INEVITABLE, AND MANY REGULAR USERS CAN MODULATE OR CEASE USING DRUGS VOLUNTARILY.
Abstract
INFORMATION IS PRESENTED THAT WAS DERIVED FROM THE NATIONAL NARCOTICS REGISTER AND FROM A HIGH DRUG USE GHETTO COMMUNITY. THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE OVERALL PROBLEM OF RATES OF HEROIN USE ARE DISCUSSED, ALONG WITH THE ACCOMPANYING EVIDENCE THAT FEWER PEOPLE ARE COMPULSIVELY USING HARD DRUGS.
