Abstract
POLICY RESEARCH IS BASED ON 3450 SENTENCES HANDED DOWN TO MALES BETWEEN 18-25 YEARS OF AGE WHO WERE CONVICTED OF LARCENY. THE SOCIAL VARIABLES ANALYZED INCLUDED: RECIDIVISM, MARITAL STATUS, OCCUPATION, NATIONALITY, IMMIGRATION STATUS, SOCIAL CLASS, AND WHETHER THE PERSON LIVED ALONE OR WITH OTHERS. RESULTS INDICATED DIFFERENCES IN THE TYPE OF SENTENCE (IMPRISONMENT, SUSPENDED SENTENCE, FINE) FOR DIFFERENT SOCIAL CLASSES.
